Youngster earns rich praise

Youngster earns rich praise

Manager Martin Gray has offered a glowing testament to a young player released by predecessor Gary Mills.

Nineteen-year-old midfielder Tyler Walton re-signed for the Minstermen last week having impressed in reserve team fixtures against Port Vale and Mansfield Town.

He'd previously totalled just a single substitute appearance for the club after originally moving to Bootham Crescent in May 2016.

"He's been great," Gray told The Press. "He's come in and given us a real hunger and desire. He's the type of player I like because he's honest and it's not just about how good you are on the ball - it's about what you do off it as well.

"We had to work hard off the ball against Kidderminster at the weekend and Tyler is about that as well."

Angry Gray blasts players

Manager Martin Gray was leaving no doubt exactly where he believes the blame lies after blasting the latest display at Curzon Ashton as an "embarrassment and disgrace".

Curzon Ashton 4 York City 1

York City produced a shockingly atrocious performance while crashing 4-1 to lowly part-timers Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium.

Home striker Niall Cummins claimed a first-half hat-trick having already seen a penalty saved by the outstanding Adam Bartlett, with Sam Walker adding to it after the break.

The visitors then had leading goalscorer Jon Parkin given a straight red card before new signing Alex Kempster impressively replied on his debut after coming off the bench.
