Released defender joins league rivals
Former York City defender Ben Clappison has signed for National League North rivals Alfreton Town until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old managed only nine starts after joining the Minstermen from Hull City in May 2016 - and within six months was sent out on loan to Boston United for the remainder of the campaign.
He was finally released from his two-year deal at Bootham Crescent early last month.
"Ben is a strong centre-back and I was familiar with him when he was at Hull," manager John McDermott told Alfreton's official website. "I kept my eye on him and from his time at York he has good grounding already. It's important for us to bring in players with experience.
"It's good cover for us to have, Ben is aggressive, a good passer and reader of the game," he added. "He has been full-time so fitness will be good for him. It gives him a chance to show what he can do as well, gives us depth and freshness."
The Reds have similarly brought in Harrogate Town striker Marcus Day on a month's loan.
