Video: We do care insists skipper

York City skipper Sean Newton insists his team-mates do care and are hurting just as badly as their supporters at the moment.

The Minstermen crashed to a seventh league defeat of the season at second-bottom Boston United despite leading at the break courtesy of Adriano Moke's first goal of the campaign.

But another shocking second-half display witnessed their lowly opponents recovering to secure themselves just a first home victory in eight attempts.

"To people that weren't here it just looks like York City players don't care," Newton told BBC Radio York. "We do care. I've seen a few times people saying we don't care and I'll put it to bed now, we do care.

"If they say players are not working hard then name them. I don't think the gaffer would pick them. I don't think one player out there didn't work as hard as they could.

"Obviously at this level they're not going to be as good as what York have seen in the past," he continued. "But as a captain, I can't see any players that hide or don't work hard.

"Today, until their goal, I couldn't fault us. Away from home, at the time I thought it was a perfect performance. They never had any clear chances and we had three of four. We just need to work on when we concede, not like sinking as a team."

York have now dropped to ninth in the table and twenty-one points behind clear leaders Salford City with the midway point of the season almost reached.
