Work starts on Community Stadium

Work starts on Community Stadium

Work has officially started on York's new Community Stadium at Monks Cross.

Diggers have finally moved onto the site where the new 8,000-capacity stadium and leisure complex is being constructed.

The stadium is to be the new home for both York City FC and York City Knights RLFC, with a scheduled opening in the summer of 2019.

"We have waited a long time for this day to arrive so, naturally, I am delighted to see that work is getting underway at Monks Cross," chairman Jason McGill told York City's official website. "It is great news for everyone associated with York City Football Club."

Contracts were signed last month to commence the build and operation of the new Community Stadium and leisure complex, with Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd appointed as building contractors.
