Golden girl Jess in Man City squad

Golden girl Jess in Man City squad

It's a memorable evening for former York City RTC player Jess Park after being named on the substitutes' bench for Manchester City Women's visit to Doncaster Rovers Belles in the Continental Cup.

The South Hunsley student recently struck a hat-trick for England Under-17s in a Euro 2017 qualifier against Latvia before immediately following it with a brace against Scotland.

That witnessed her signing for FA Women's Super League champions Manchester City upon her sixteenth birthday in October, where she will have day release in Manchester every Wednesday before going full-time once her GCSE exams are completed in June.

And now within just a couple of months of moving from York, where she has been developing over the past six years, Jess is proudly occupying a City bench also including current England internationals Karen Bardsley, Melissa Lawley and Izzy Christiansen.

Manchester City Women: Hourihan, Jans, Beattie, Houghton, Morgan, Walsh, McManus, Toone, Stanway, Emslie, Ross

subs: Bardsley, Pattinson, McPartland, Fletcher, Park, Lawley, Christiansen

More frustration for Gray

Manager Martin Gray was once again deeply frustrated following a 1-1 draw with lowly part-timers Alfreton Town at Bootham Crescent.

York City 1 Alfreton Town 1

York City produced another deeply uninspiring display while being held 1-1 by lowly part-timers Alfreton Town at Bootham Crescent.

That was despite midfielder Simon Heslop earning them an early fifth-minute lead that was cancelled out by former York defender Tom Allan before the break.

Manager Martin Gray earlier made a single-change from the woeful 4-1 defeat at Curzon Ashton, with goalscorer Alex Kempster given a full debut as replacement for the suspended Jon Parkin. Louis Almon
