Skipper Newton commits to York City

Skipper Sean Newton has signed a new two-year extension to his current deal at Bootham Crescent.

The 29-year-old former Wrexham and Lincoln City enforcer therefore now remains with the club until the summer of 2020.

Newton has made 60 appearances and scored eight goals for the Minstermen since initially arriving on loan from Wrexham in October 2016.

He struck his fifth goal of the campaign in their weekend victory at Darlington having missed the previous three games with an ankle injury.

"Sean is a leader who leads by example every day," manager Martin Gray told The Press. "It is fantastic news that he has committed his future to the club for another two-and-a-half years. He will play a big part in our plans and is still getting better as a player."
