Goalkeeper Adam Bartlett says York City will take a lot of confidence from beating league leaders Salford City while also maintaining a rare clean-sheet.

That was the Minstermen's first shut-out since defeating North Ferriby United 2-0 on New Year's Day, and only their second under the leadership of Martin Gray following his appointment at the beginning of October.

However, it was sufficient to move them up to fifth in the table and within a single victory of the top-three, although having played more games than each of their rivals.

"It's the first clean-sheet since North Ferriby," Bartlett told BBC Radio York. "So it's a long time coming and something that as a team we've been striving to improve upon.

"It hasn't happened up to now but the league leaders at home is going to be a massive confidence boost for the whole team - not just the back four because we defend from the front.

"A massive performance and some great blocks by players throwing bodies on the line. We had a lot to cope with and there were some impressive performances out there.

"We've got to take that forward now," he admitted. "Just because it's against the league leaders we can't have high standards and then next week against Curzon Ashton or the week after that - we've got to keep it up.

"We've worked really hard from top to back. It was a really disciplined performance and that's maybe something we've lacked a little bit. It was probably the best since I've been at the club."
