The incredible adventures of Graham Potter

The incredible adventures of Graham Potter

Former York City utility man Graham Potter is preparing for the biggest challenge of his life later this evening.

The 42-year-old will be leading Swedish minnows Ostersunds FK into their Europa League second-leg tie at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

Ostersunds may trail 3-0 from the original game a week ago, but the very fact they are on such a platform is testimony to one of the brightest young managers in the game.

Potter made 131 appearances and scored eight goals while a left-back or midfielder at Bootham Crescent having originally begun his career with Birmingham City.

He also had spells for Stoke City, Southampton, West Bromwich Albion, Boston United and Macclesfield Town.

Appointed as coach of Ostersunds on a three-year contact in December 2010, Potter had incredibly steered them from the fourth division and into the top flight inside five years.

In April 2017, the Solihull-born supremo led them to the Swedish Cup - and thus qualification for the Europa League, where they have since accounted for Turkish giants Galatasaray.

One of the star performers during their remarkable rise has been 'superstar' winger Jamie Hopcutt, who was released by York back in 2010 without ever making their first-team.
