Ex-City man Potter an absolute 'legend'

Ex-City man Potter an absolute 'legend'

Former York City man Graham Potter is an even bigger legend after sensationally leading Swedish minnows Ostersunds FK to a famous 2-1 victory at Arsenal in the Europa League.

While the Gunners still progressed through in the competition having won the first-leg 3-0 a week earlier, it maintained a simply incredible rise for their opponents, who were a modest fourth division outfit when Potter originally took charge in December 2010.

He's since steered them into the top division while winning the Swedish Cup and also qualifying for Europe.

"We spoke about trying to play well in the first-half and then try and win the game - and hope for a miracle," Potter told Calendar News. "We got two out of three.

"It's not easy to win at Arsenal; the fact that we have is a feeling of great pride, but also disappointment because we've gone out," he admitted. "So we have to use the experience to try improve and get better."

Meanwhile, the 5,000 travelling support included around forty people who specially journeyed from York in support of Ostersunds' former City youth-teamer Jamie Hopcutt, now described as a 'superstar' in Sweden.
