Plymouth vs. York City

City seeking Devon delight

York City seek to continue their impressive away form when making the long trip to Plymouth Argyle this weekend. The Minstermen actually secured their first win in eight games at Rochdale last week courtesy of an unlikely double-blast from diminutive midfielder Michael Potts on his first start of the season. Plymouth's record of late has been decidedly poor with eight defeats in their last nine games. They have also failed to score in any of their previous three league fixtures when losing to Chesterfield, Bradford City and Fleetwood Town. The Pilgrims are indeed without a single clean-sheet in the league this term and have failed to achieve that requirement in any of their past eighteen games.

Vital Quotes:

"They will be a good footballing side which will probably suit us," York boss Gary Mills told The Press. "They also need a few results and haven't had a great start to the season but they've maybe been unfortunate at times this season, a bit like us. I don't take much notice of bad runs of form because we were on seven without a win before we went to Rochdale."

Plymouth Team News:

On loan striker Alex MacDonald has returned to Burnley after coming to the end of a three-month spell. Right-back Durrell Berry is suspended following his dismissal during the midweek defeat on penalties to Oxford United in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Transfer-listed skipper Darren Purse should return following his own three-game ban. Either Warren Feeney or on loan Guy Madjo is set to be recalled into attack while left-back Robbie Williams misses out with a stomach injury. Goalkeeper Jack Cole may well displace Rene Gilmartin between the posts.
Plymouth Argyle (probable): Cole, Nelson, Purse, Blanchard, Bhasera, Cowan-Hall, Hourihane, Molesley, Gurrieri, Griffiths, Madjo

Player to watch: Darren Purse

Transfer-listed 35-year-old skipper with previous top-flight experience at Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.

York City Team News:

There is a new name in the York squad after eighteen-year-old centre-back Tom Allan signed a first professional deal with the club this week. Midfielder Michael Potts is likely to keep his place after scoring twice last time out, particularly with no movement regarding early loan returns for either Lee Bullock or Jonathan Smith. Striker Alex Rodman has recovered from a stomach problem but the versatile Lanre Oyebanjo misses out with a hamstring injury.
York City: Ingham, Parslow, C. Smith, Doig, Fyfield, Kerr, Potts, McLaughlin, Blair, Walker, Chambers
subs (from): Musselwhite, Challinor, Blanchett, McGurk, Reed, Rodman, Kelly, Allan

Player to watch: Michael Potts

Sensational first appearance of the season last week with two goals at Rochdale.

Match Facts & Stats

York have made thirteen previous league visits to Plymouth, winning twice and drawing five times. Their last trip came in March 2002, when suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat. City's team that day was: Fettis, Hocking, Parkin, Basham, Hobson (Wise), Potter, Richardson, Bullock, Brass, Nogan, Mathie. The Minstermen's two victories arrived on the final day of their glorious promotion season of 1973-74, Jimmy Seal and an own goal helping them to a 2-0 success, while strikers Paul Baker and Glenn Naylor netted in a 2-1 win in February 1995. Both games were played in the third tier of the Football League.
