York City are targeting a third straight victory when travelling to another of the play-off contenders, Aldershot Town, this weekend.

Sean Newton's dramatic injury-time winner against high-flying Barrow last week served to further boost optimism at Bootham Crescent and could yet prove to be a really defining moment of another deeply troubled campaign.

However, as many typically grounded fans have since stated, it's just one victory and many more must following between now and the end of the season if the Minstermen are to extricate themselves from the vast hole they've dug over the previous six months.

But the signs are definitely looking better under inspirational leader Gary Mills, whose rousing exhibition of fist-pumping and chest-beating at the end of the dramatic Barrow contest showed just how much it had meant to him personally.

His revamped York have only a solitary defeat in their last seven games while being victorious in four of them - and with recent performances simultaneously backing up that kind of record.

For their part Aldershot boast the joint-highest number of home victories in the division while also taking ten points from their last four games anywhere, leaving them just a single triumph outside the play-offs.

Vital Quotes:

"We're capable of beating, in my opinion, any team in this league now - if we play how we played last week," manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York. "And the players are now showing what it means, every single one of them. I think it was eighteen games and I said we need to win half of them. We've won the first of that eighteen and hopefully we can go down to Aldershot, who are sitting like Barrow were just out of the play-offs and on a little bit of a good run themselves, and prove away from home against a good side that we can get a result."

Aldershot Town Team News:

Nick Arnold [ankle] and Liam Bellamy [knee] are both current casualties for the hosts, who include ex-York winger Anthony Straker at left-back.
Aldershot Town (probable): Cole, Alexander, Reynolds, Conroy, Straker, Fenelon, Benyu, Gallagher, Mensah, Kanu, Rendell

Player to watch: Idris Kanu

Teenage forward attracting recent interest from a number of top-flight clubs.

York City Team News:

Defender Shaun Rooney [ankle] is ruled out for the visitors but Danny Holmes [groin] was expected to recover. Winger Aidan Connolly [thigh/hamstring] makes a welcome return to the squad, although Matt Fry, Lanre Oyebanjo and Clovis Kamdjo remain sidelined. Striker Vadaine Oliver is also firmly back in contention.
York City (probable): Letheren, Bencherif, Klukowski, Parslow, Holmes, Heslop, Lappin, Newton, Whittle, Parkin, Morgan-Smith
subs: Moke, Connolly, ter Horst, Fenwick, Oliver

Player to watch: Sean Newton

An inspiration, a leader - and now a match-winner following his first goal for the club.

Match Facts & Stats
