There are now fifteen games to rescue a situation that currently has York City five points away from immediate safety going into their weekend trip to Boreham Wood.

With just one defeat in ten games - and that only due to an injury-time strike at promotion-chasing Tranmere Rovers - the visitors should certainly be in a positive frame of mind despite the setback of failing to overcome fellow strugglers Maidstone United last week. But the fact of the matter is had they accepted even a reasonable quota of the chances they created during that particular game, City would have won it comfortably rather than in the end hanging on for a point.

That contest also witnessed the unfortunate loss of experienced midfielder Simon Lappin for the remainder of the season due to Achilles damage, although it did signal a most welcome return to action for Wembley-twice hero Lanre Oyebanjo.

As it stands the situation really is abundantly clear: York simply have to start winning games, even though they have most definitely improved since the New Year's Day disaster at home to North Ferriby United; because the stage where battling draws are not enough really isn't that far away, whatever the positive sound bites coming out of Bootham Crescent.

To their credit City's relegation rivals have shown a more consistent ability to do exactly that, with three more of them adding vital midweek victories to their modest tallies. Indeed Braintree Town's unexpected latest success at Eastleigh was in fact their tenth of the campaign, which is already twice the number achieved by York, who are still easily the worst in the division in that respect and three behind the other four clubs currently occupying a bottom-five place.

Vital Quotes:

"Winning five games and we've drawn twelve which tells a story and the difference between winning a game and drawing a game," manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York. "So there's no doubt we've got to turn those draws into wins. Five wins all season tells us why we are where we are. Yes we've drawn a few of late that we could have won but we haven't, so you take the point. It's such a thin dividing line. We win on Saturday and we could actually go out of the bottom four on Tuesday."

Boreham Wood Team News:
