York City 0 Bromley 2
Tue 4th Apr 7.45pm
York City totally blew their big chance of escaping the relegation zone after a 2-0 defeat to struggling Bromley at Bootham Crescent.
The Minstermen made the worst possible start to an absolutely key encounter with Louis Dennis opening the scoring inside a couple of minutes.
Striker Toby Sho-Silva then added a second for the visitors after the break following a costly mistake by goalkeeper Scott Loach.
There was a single-change from the weekend victory against Braintree Town with skipper Simon Heslop replacing Danny Holmes.
The returning Yan Klukowski was named on the bench having missed the last six games with calf trouble, while second-choice keeper Kyle Letheren and midfielder Aidan Connolly dropped out completely.
However, York were immediately in arrears with Dennis slotting past Loach at close-range from Connor Dymond's through pass.
Leading marksman Turgott then shot comfortably wide before Vadaine Oliver headed Heslop's cross straight at Ross Flitney. Jack Holland soon recovered to clear behind ahead of Jon Parkin.
Sho-Silva instantly headed wide a cross by Turgott, whose free-kick was parried by Loach after the visitors had already lost goalscorer Dennis to injury. Sho-Silva was next wide from long distance as the half-hour mark approached - and George Porter similarly wayward.
Hamza Bencherif headed over Sean Newton's corner with five minutes of the opening half remaining before Bromley substitute Shane McLoughlin was denied by Loach's parry. York's in-form striker Parkin then headed over Asa Hall's cross.
The Minstermen needed a big improvement attacking towards their favoured home end during the second-half. They began strongly and Alex Whittle's right-footed effort was soon blocked by keeper Flitney.
However, Sho-Silva rapidly headed a second goal for the visitors following Loach failing to gather Jordan Higgs' free-kick.
Manager Gary Mills responded by introducing Holmes and Sam Muggleton for Adriano Moke and Whittle. Newton's cross was then flicked on by Parkin ahead of unsuccessful handball claims inside the area.
Substitute Muggleton's trademark huge throw was next glanced onto the crossbar by Oliver before Newton's shot was charged down. The recalled Heslop also sliced wide after another Muggleton delivery.
The hosts were forcing a succession of throws and Oliver helped another Muggleton assist over after Heslop was initially blocked. Parkin next blasted a free-kick into the defensive wall and Oliver headed directly at Flitney from Muggleton's latest throw.
Their opponents suddenly broke with Turgott chasing away and being thwarted by Loach while Helsop blazed comfortably wide at the other end.
Bromley substitute Shabazz Omofe soon had another opportunity to settle any remaining doubt but Loach once again came to the rescue. Omofe also forced a later stop from the former England Under-21 international keeper.
Defender Bencherif headed wide yet another Muggleton throw during five minutes of added time as the deep frustration continued right until the end.
