Red Rewind: Woking Special #3

Red Rewind: Woking Special #3
York City really need a win at Woking this weekend and they should take plenty of confidence from past results at the Kingfield Stadium.

The Minstermen have triumphed on each of their three last league visits, including by a 2-0 margin on their most recent trip in October 2008.

Manager Colin Walker's side had actually won just one of their previous dozen games but still took the honours with both goals arriving during a seven-minute second-half spell.

The travelling Jorvik Reds were in particularly colourful form with their flares leaving little doubt as to which team they were firmly backing.

However, Liam Marum lifted over early for the hosts from the edge of the area and Joel Ledgister also side-footed against an upright.

Woking actually remained on top with Tom Hutchinson heading wide a Danny Bunce corner before Craig Farrell's reply was off-target from Ben Wilkinson's through ball.

Mark Robinson also struck over for the visitors while Daniel Parslow cleared as Marum prepared to open the scoring following Bunce's miscued volley.

York striker Farrell reacted by missing the near post from on loan Peter Holmes' pass, before also heading at Lenny Pidgeley after Darren Kelly's early second-half free-kick.

Wilkinson next sliced wide for the visitors, until the former Hull City midfielder suddenly lifted Ben Purkiss' long ball over the advancing Pidgeley to break the deadlock.

Six minutes later Simon Rusk released Farrell to allow Daniel McBreen a second into the bottom corner from eight-yards.

The Cards were then subjected to a couple of late dismissals, with first Hutchinson and then Bradley Quamina leaving the action after both transgressing during the final six minutes.

Salford City 3 York City 2

York City appear to be left scrapping for a play-off place at best following a rather flattering 3-2 defeat at promotion rivals Salford City.

Skipper Liam Hogan - who scored for the hosts in the FA Cup meeting between the two clubs five weeks ago - netted in each half and either side of Jack Redshaw's long overdue strike.

Late replies from substitutes Louis Almond and Aidan Connolly simply masked another seriously inept performance from their opponents.
