Rewind Extra: Goal-hero in dreamland
Nineteen-year-old debutant Andrew Dawson was still in dreamland after his late winning goal against title-favourites Manchester City.
The Strensall-born full-back had been an 84th minute replacement for fellow marksman Gordon Connelly, who'd earlier opened the scoring inside two minutes. That was later cancelled out by Craig Russell.
However, it was Dawson's first-ever touch in senior football that produced a memorable winner in front of a bumper 7,527 attendance.
"The ball was slipped in by Rodney [Rowe] and it was either me or Crezzie [Richard Cresswell] who was going to hit it," the teenager explained to The Press. "Lucky enough it was me.
"Usually my left foot is only for standing on, but I decided I had to make sure I hit the target," Dawson admitted. "That was what I focused on. I went for placement rather than power because I did not want to sky it over the bar.
"It was just a dream," he added. "Just getting on to play for the first time was enough, but to score was just outstanding for me. I'll never forget it."
